Rialto Dunedin was booked out and Newmarket had a big crowd turn up as well.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo DVD Release

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, part 1 of the Millennium Trilogy, has taken the world by storm. The DVD of the movie will be released by Vendetta Films on April 22nd, 2010. The film has now beaten out luminaries such as Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Life Is Beautiful to become the third largest foreign language theatrical release ever in New Zealand.

Stieg Larsson’s thriller novel about a computer hacker and a disgraced journalist’s quest to find a missing girl has sold over 27million copies making him the second most successful author in the world in 2008. The film adaptation has made over US$100 Million at the box office globally and has made over $1 million (NZD) in New Zealand alone.

There are already talks about a Hollywood remake with Fight Club director David Fincher rumoured to be taking on screenwriter Steve Zaillian (Shindler’s List) adaptation of the novel. But the real question is who could possibly play Lisbeth Salander; one of the most memorable fictitious characters seen on the big screen since Kill Bill’s The Bride. Rumours that An Education actress Carey Mulligan may be considered for the role, as well as others including Kristen Stewart and Zooey Deschanel, are yet to be confirmed. However, it is hard to imagine anyone other than Swedish actress Noomi Rapace, who spent 7 months transforming herself into Lisbeth Salander, playing the part. Only time will tell whether an impressive line-up of cast and crew will be able to adapt the film into another masterpiece or whether the original will continue to be hailed as the masterpiece.

The next two instalments of the Millennium Trilogy Films (The Girl Who Played With Fire and The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet’s Nest) will be released in cinemas later this year, followed by DVD releases from Vendetta Films.
 

Justin Bartha and Melanie Laurent Star in Every Jack Has A Jill

Justin Bartha (The Hangover, National Treasure), Melanie Laurent (Inglourious Basterds) and Billy Boyd (Lord of the Rings) star in this romantic comedy with a twist.

26-year-old Chloé lives alone in Paris, between an invasive neighbor, a petty-minded colleague and a preachy kind of employee at a DVD rental store. It is a life that doesn't live up to her expectations.

30-year-old Jack, an American who's been dumped by his girlfriend, wins a trip to Paris. By a fortunate stroke of luck, Chloé gets her hands on Jack's suitcase, one that his father left him and to which he is deeply attached. Chloé falls in love with the suitcase's contents and even though she's never seen him and knows nothing about him, decides that Jack is the man of her dreams and will do anything to find him.

However, fairytales are not all they are cracked out to be!
