Synopsis

Customs officer Tina is known for her extraordinary sense of smell. It's almost as if she can sniff out the guile on anyone hiding something. But when Vore, a suspicious-looking man, walks past her, Tina's abilities are challenged for the first time ever.
Tina can sense Vore is hiding something that she can't identify. Even worse, she feels a strange attraction to him. As Tina develops a special bond with Vore and begins to discover his true identity, she also realizes the truth about herself. Tina, like Vore does not belong to this world, her entire existence has been one big lie. Now, she has to choose: keep living the lie or embrace Vore's terrifying revelations.

A sisterhood of 8 Maori female directors bravely share their insights into the complexity of child abuse, in a sequence of eight short films that seamlessly become one.

At the centre of their stories is Waru, a boy killed at the hands of a caregiver. His tangi, set on a small rural marae, is the centrepiece of the film, but there is an underlying disturbance of heavy themes touching on culture, custom and shame.
