The Last Diamond

Synopsis

The “Florentin”, a fabled, 137-carat yellow diamond last seen in 1918, has resurfaced and is up for sale at an exclusive Antwerp auction house. Simon, a thief recently released on parole, is bullied into taking on the most intricate and riskiest theft of his career. To succeed, he must get close to Julia, a beautiful diamond expert, for whom the sale is of considerable personal importance.

Simon starts to assemble the pieces of his elaborate ruse, suspecting that he is just another piece of someone else’s complex jigsaw puzzle. But when no one is who they appear to be, the streetwise don’t make their move until the last mask comes off. And beyond the boldly daring theft, Simon will lead Julia toward a destiny that she could never have imagined.

Following in the tradition of Jean-Pierre Melville’s Le Cercle Rouge and The Thomas Crown Affair, Eric Barbier’s new film sees French A-lister Yvan Attal team up with The Artist’s Oscar-nominated star Bérénice Bejo to bring the sophisticated heist movie roaring back to life.

Waru

A sisterhood of 8 Maori female directors bravely share their insights into the complexity of child abuse, in a sequence of eight short films that seamlessly become one.

At the centre of their stories is Waru, a boy killed at the hands of a caregiver. His tangi, set on a small rural marae, is the centrepiece of the film, but there is an underlying disturbance of heavy themes touching on culture, custom and shame.

Borg/McEnroe

Borg/McEnroe is a film about one of the world’s greatest icons Björn Borg and his biggest rival, the young and talented John McEnroe and their legendary duel during the 1980’s Wimbledon tournament.
